Does Reflect On Academy Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling meets the requirements for Registration with BACP?

The programme of study provides learners with the appropriate requirements for certification as a Registered Counsellor (RC) with the BACP. This Diploma programme provides individuals with the opportunity to learn and develop counselling skills appropriate for counselling individuals across a variety of work settings. Addition to the 450 direct teaching hours, you will be required to complete a minimum of 150 hours of supervised client work as a formally contracted volunteer in a counselling agency. You will also be required to complete a minimum of 50 hours personal counselling and 30 supervision hours in the work placement. These commitments are your own responsibility to secure and manage. Please note supervision and personal therapy fee is not included in the course fee.


What is the Entry Requirements for the Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling:

The counselling training course begins in September of each year, selection taking place throughout the year. Principles guiding the selection of candidates for counsellor training:

  • Candidates will have successfully completed Reflect On Advanced Certificate in Counselling,
  • or equivalent of 120 hours at Level 3
  • Provide evidence of good character and personal attributes via referee reports.
  • Completed CV
  • A passport sized photograph
  • Candidates should feel able to commit themselves to the objectives of the course and to achieve the standard required for the work.
  • Enhanced disclosures via the Criminal Records Bureau

    Applicants will be assessed in terms of evidence shown of the following attributes or the potential for
    developing them:
  • Self-awareness and a relational capacity to relate in a facilitative way with others and to reflect on and examine the impact of these actions.
  • Understand and practice ethical behaviour and be prepared to follow the BACP Code of Ethics as a requirement of the programme.
  • Ability to make use of and reflect upon life experience
  • Capacity to cope with the emotional demand of the course
  • Ability to cope with the intellectual and academic requirements
  • Some awareness of the nature and prejudice and oppression of minority groups
  • A primary need for training in helping others rather than personal counselling
  • The above qualities presume a certain level of mature life experience on the part of the applicant as shown by the capacity to reflect on
    and learn from experience, including being open to positive and challenging feedback.
  • Applicants must be aware that they will need to be available to participate in a planned and structured client contact setting (placement) in person with clients face-to-face.
  • Some awareness of the nature and prejudice and oppression of minority groups
